Didn;t watch a whole lot of Glastonbury. Ducked in an out of Tom Jones and Madness. Started watching Blur but felt tired so will catch up with that and The Prodigy later. Also heard that The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were on the BBC coverage last night, so that will undoubtedly be good.

Californication: Going Down And Out In Beverly Hills - 4/5

Countdown: 26th June
Innis Carson - 115
Dan Brusca - 67
Martyn Brewer - 57
Got an 8-letterr word: ANTERIOR. Looks like Innis is going to becom an octochamp though.

Radiohead Live At Eurockeenes - great gig, but I wonder how many potential Sky Arts viewers were lost when the announcer incorrectly said it was a 1997 gig, rather than a 2007 one - 5/5

Also watched as much Glastonbury as possible. Highlights so far:

1. The Ting Tings
2. The Specials
3. Lily Allen - awesome Womanizer cover
4. VV Brown
5. Lady Gaga was OK, she only has one decent song though. However, this is partially compensated for by the fact she knows how to entertain a crowd and likes wearing latex. Always a good thing.

Big Brother: Day 20 - 3/5

Flight Of The Conchords: Prime Minister - 4/5

Katie & Peter: The Next Chapter: Stateside - 4/5

Question Time - an awful lot of parsimonious guff being spouted by the panel, but at least Leanne Wood spouted hers in a lovely welsh accent. Interesting that Jim McKnight couldn't bring himself to explicitly endorse the pay package of the new RBS chief executive - 3/5

So series 61 begins in earnest. I'm pretty sure they've changed a few things, most notably the camera focuses in on the letters board much more closely, which means we don't get to see Rachel's legs, which is disappointing. Rachel's changed her hairstyle and she seems to be smiling a lot more, but it looks forced. Her face was a bit shiny as well. Odd. As for this episode, I spotted two 8-letter words - DEFILERS and STRAINED - and the conundrum, SERVICING.

Big Brother: Day 17 - 4/5

Also watched most of the coverage of the election of Speaker, right from the first ballot results through to the theatrics of the royal approbation and Bercow's brief first session as in the job. Looking forward to PMQs tomorrow, though I'll have to wait until late tomorrow night to watch it as I'm in London for the day.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen - as mindlessly entertaining as the first one for the first half, but pretty dull once the action moves to Egypt. It would appear that Megan Fox's character can't run unless someone is holding her hand but at least Fox herself is, well, a fox - 3/5

Grey's Anatomy: Sweet Surrender - 4/5

The Savages - pretty much the absolute antithesis to Transformers - 4/5

Big Brother: Day 16 - 4/5

House: Joy - Olivia Wilde is *stunning* - 4/5

The Take - Tom Hardy is really good in this, but it feels like everything is being rushed through so as to fit the entire story in four episodes. Probably would have worked better across six - 3/5

ER: And In The End... - ER finally flatlines after 15 years. I've seene every single episode! This final episode wasn't anything special, but it was nice to see a few familiar faces back, especially Sherry Stringfield. I also liked the way they didn't try to neatly tie-up plot strands and give everyone a happily ever after. ER may have died, but life still goes on... - 3/5

Out like Flint

So much for my prediction that Caroline Flint would be in cabinet by the end of the day! Despite her public oath of loyalty and disavowing of her links with Blears and Smith last night, Brown declined to bump her up to the top table and it looks like she's decided to walk instead rather than stay on as Europe Minister.

Will be interesting to hear whether or not she was tipped a nod that she was going to be in the cabinet and quit feeling she has been betrayed.

Who replaces her? Glenys Kinnock. I shit you not!

America's Got Talent - apparently not - 2/5

Big Brother Launch Show - liking the fact they're currently living in one room with no furniture, but as yet I'm not really liking any of the non-housemates themselves, with the exception of Sophie, who is gorgeous and will therefore probably be gone very soon. Interestingly, there don't appear to be be many attractive females in there this year, just Sophie and Karly really. Noirin maybe but she's already had her eyebrows shaved off and will have to wander around for days with spectacles and a flase moustache drawn on her face, such is the price one pays for transient fame. Loving Davina's continued commitment to fetish though - 3/5

Brown makes his moves

Gosh, it's all happening very quickly on the political front this morning.

Last night's resignation of James Purnell has concentrated the Prime Minister's mind and he's brought forward his reshuffle, which is happening as I type. He's racing against time to get a cabinet in place before any backbench rebellion can take hold, any other significant ministers can jump ship and the full extent of the dismal election results becomes clear. As I wrote the other day, this is key to his survival because anyone who takes a place in the new cabinet will be bound to Brown for the duration.

So far this morning we've heard that Alastair Darling is to stay on as Chancellor. Clearly Darling decided it was that or nothing and Brown backed down on swapping him for Ed Balls. This will inevitibly add to the impression that Brown is weak, a charge that the Conservatives will hammer home for months to come.

We're also hearing that Alan Johnson has accepted the poison chalice of the Home Office. A clever move by Brown, leaving Johnson with nowhere to go, either accept the crappy job or leave government. This also shows some weakness on the part of Johnson. Had he declined the move, it would have killed off Brown for good, but it seems he either lacked the spine or is playing a long, post-election game.

As things stand right now - and they are changing by the minute - the feeling I have (and have had since Wednesday) is that Brown is going to scrape through this immediate crisis. Most of the current cabinet have pledged their support to Brown and without another significant cabinet resignation it's likely the backbench rebellion will fizzle out.

One other thing to mention - Caroline Flint gave a very on-message interview yesterday (though I can't remember who too!). Expect to see her rewarded with a cabinet position by the end of the day, as I predicted on 23rd May.

It's make your mind up time

...and I'm not talking about the elections tomorrow, though for the record I'm voting Conservative for Derbyshire County Council and Libertas for the European parliament. I did have a brief moment of pause on the latter when I discovered a guy I used to know, Roy Kennedy, was standing for Labour. He's a top bloke, but unfortunately Labour through-and-through, an insurmountable obstacle!

No, it's really make your mind up time for those around the cabinet table. The headlines are doom-laden for Gordon Brown this morning with much talk of the government falling apart and Brown losing control. 5 Live's Nicky Campbell compared the situation to the film Downfall, charting Hitler's final days in the bunker with his closest advisors around him. Most strikingly, The Guardian has called on Brown to be 'cut loose' in today's editorial and The Sun's Trevor Kavanagh made the bold assertion, again on 5 Live, that Brown would actually be gone sometime next week. Is Kavanagh aware that there's a real plot to out Brown in the offing?

If there is going to be a move against Brown, it has to happen quickly. He will be reshuffling the cabinet on either Friday or Monday. It can be taken as read that anyone who takes a seat at the table won't then go on to knife him in the back. They will be bound to Brown until the bitter end. The problem is that it would take an extraordinarily brave soul to come out publically and do the deed in the next couple of days and I'm not sure there are any such figures in the present cabinet. However, if a cabinet member of sufficient seniority were to resign and call for the PM to do the same, it would without a doubt have the desired effect.

An alternative scenario would be for the 'grey suits' to send a delegation to Brown and tell him that time is up. There are few figures left with the authority to lead such a delegation, but Jack Straw is the obvious choice. He's widely-respected in cabinet and were he to move, most of the cabinet would swing in behind him, delivering a fait accompli to Brown. This would also give Brown the opportunity to save a little dignity. He could say that he was stepping down in the interests of the party and the country, rather than face humiliation at their hands.

Then again, maybe nothing will happen. Labour MPs of all ranks are inherently spineless and in all probability Brown will survive if he makes it through the reshuffle. Needless to say, this would be bad for the country, saddled for another year with a Prime Minister and a government that the vast majority of the public don't want and which lacks all moral authority to govern.

It's time for someone in cabinet to step up and do what's right for the country.

UPDATE
Hazel Blears has resigned. Looks like another one who doesn't want her departure to look like a sacking. This storm shows no signs of abating.
