Hello Dan. You said: "One of the Noahide laws is the prohibtion of idolatry and one of its many sub-laws is a prohibition on creating a new religion. So technically, as a Muslim, you would be unable to follow that particular law."
I am not trying to follow the 7 Noahide laws, sorry if my post made it sound like I was. It just so happens that the 7 laws are laws that are (at least from the wording that I saw), laws that are within Islam.
Actually Islam is not a new religion. Not at all. It is definitely not idolatrous either. That is a misconception you seem to have. Islam is 100% Monotheism. We believe in One God: the Creator and sustainer of the Universe and we worship that God alone.
Islam is not a new religion. Islam is the religion of Adam, Noah, Moses, David, Solomon (Peace and Blessings of God be upon them all). How? Well. 'Islam' means: Submission/Surrender to the will of God. A Muslim is a person who submits to the will of God. And that is what all of the Prophets did. They submitted to the will of God and so they were Muslims - People who submitted to God.
God sent different Prophets to different nations, but they all came with the same essential message, some of the laws they came with differed but the theology was the same: Worship One God and follow the way of the Prophet he sent.
the Prophet Muhammad was another one of the Prophets sent by the same God...he was a direct descendant of Abraham and he came with the same message but in its final form - to the whole of mankind...not a new religion.
In fact it was the Jews who had strayed from the original religion of God and made changes to their books and rejected what God had told them to accept and broken their covenant with God.
What was the name of the religion of Abraham? It definitely wasn't 'Judaism' nor was 'Judaism' the name of the religion of Moses. They were people who submitted to God. God called that religion (of surrendering to God) Islam.
So I do not consider myself a 'Noahide', novice or otherwise...that is also a made-up term. I am a person who has surrendered myself to God...a MUSLIM!
"I am not trying to follow the 7 Noahide laws, sorry if my post made it sound like I was."I didn't think you were trying to follow the Noahide laws, but merely that you read about them at that stall and, on the face of it, believed that as a Muslim you were following them anyway.
I was pointing out that as a Muslim, you couldn't follow the Noahide laws, whether you intended to or not.
"Actually Islam is not a new religion. Not at all. It is definitely not idolatrous either. That is a misconception you seem to have."I never said that Islam was a new religion, I said that according to the Noahide laws a non-Jew who innovates or follows religious practices outside of those contained within the Noahide laws is violating the prohibition on creating a new religion, which itself is contained within the prohibition of idolatry.
